Life Changing and Liberating
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20
While Jesus provided the instruction, he left the how up to us. In our age, there are many, many ways of reaching out and of engaging each other.

Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, Senior Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois
Between Christianity and revolution there is no contradiction.
– Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.
Christian love is the catalyst that moves us to transform the systems and structures that oppress African Americans and other marginalized peoples. At Trinity UCC, and through the Unashamed Media Group, our public and private lives seek to be in line with the unconditional love of God, embodied through the person of Jesus Christ. In order to reach this goal, we practice, live, and teach the power of prayer and fasting and we are committed members of the Body of Christ. We are the hands and feet of Christ required to engage the world in the creation of the Beloved Community of which Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke so forcefully.
This tool, UnashamedMedia.com, is a critical resource for Pastor Moss’ teachings through powerful sermons and increasingly, sermonic films. Recognizing the importance of each of us knowing the Bible for ourselves, we believe Bible study to be a critical component of our faith walk. This site provides links to Bible studies, both live and recorded, with access to study guides for self-paced learning.
Our communities, country, and world are increasingly complex places. UnashamedMedia.com is one place where you will find the critical issues of our time informed from a Christian perspective and through a Liberation Theology lens.
We are working hard to become an important component of reliable, relevant, and restoring information – a critical connection in understanding God’s mission for us.
Information and Education for Liberation
Trinity United Church of Christ is a Liberation Church. We believe justice and compassion is the manifestation of Christ’s love in the world. Where there is suffering, we seek to relieve it. Where there is brokenness, we seek to mend it. Where there is injustice, we seek to bring about a just relationship through the building and expansion of God’s kingdom on earth.
Unashamed Media Group is an important delivery mechanism for us to share audio, video, and textual information that will contribute to the uplifting and liberation of oppressed people everywhere. Specific areas of focus include:
- Economic Viability – fair wages, sustainable community development, entrepreneurial training and support
- Educational Opportunity – our communities need greater investment in education and divestment in incarceration
- Environmental Justice – liberation from being dumping grounds for industrial waste, contaminated water, and lung disease causing air pollution, must be addressed in our communities, as well as broader issues, such as climate change
- Community Health and Wellness – COVID-19 is one more example of the increased impact of health crises in communities of color. The availability of health care and mental health care is critical. This also includes education around, and the availability of, healthy foods in the midst of food deserts and swamps.
- Personal Financial Responsibility – the Black community represents a trillion dollars in annual buying power. Strategically deploying our own spending is a powerful tool in building self-sustaining communities.
- Ending America’s Epidemic of Mass Incarceration – our jails and prisons are filled with Black, brown and poor people as a result of systemic racialized practices and community disinvestment
The Honorable Judge R. Eugene Pincham, a historic figure in Trinity UCC’s life, had a favorite phrase he often used in discussing mentoring our young men and women, “You’ve got to know better to do better.”
UnashamedMedia.com, at its essence, is our platform for helping people to KNOW BETTER.
The Black artist is dangerous. Black art controls the “Negro’s” reality, negates negative influences, and creates positive images. – Sonia Sanchez
African and African American creativity, in the service of lifting up our people, has been absolutely critical in our struggles. Whether talking about ancient Egyptian principles of Ma’at – Truth, Justice, Harmony, Balance, Order, Reciprocity and Propriety –the Adinkra symbols developed in the early 1800’s that capture West African concepts and wisdom, slave songs sung to provide guidance to enslaved Africans seeking to escape bondage, or even Gil Scott-Herron warning us about Angel Dust, art has served, and continues to serve Africans in Diaspora.
UnashamedMedia.com is a 21st Century digital extension of those traditions. Through song, video/film, graphics, poetry and prose, we bring powerful communications tools into play in the work to uplift Black lives, individually and collectively. Pastor Moss, in his vision document for Trinity United Church of Christ says, “We have been marginalized and colonized by policies and doctrines counter to the love of God.” UnashamedMedia.com is corrective medicine for marginalization and both physical AND mental colonization.
From the first project of the Unashamed Media Group, Stay Connected, a two CD set of music from around the African Diaspora, to our video short film, A Day in the Chi, to our most recent sermonic film, Letter To My Son, the threads of uplift, love, and powerful beauty has been evident.
As Sister Sanchez says, “Black art controls [our] reality.”
At UnashamedMedia.com we are committed to the creation of Beloved Community through the power of Black creativity.
